Fiona is a fully trained psychotherapeutic counsellor with experience working within the NHS, with charities and in private practice. In addition to her training as a Transactional Analysis (TA) psychotherapist, Fiona utilises an integrative approach which draws on her background as a research student in psychology, and incorporates techniques from other therapeutic disciplines such as Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprogramming (EMDR) and Gestalt Theory. This means that she is able to apply the right techniques to address a wide range of counselling issues.

Fiona has worked to support a wide range of people through a variety of life challenges and is trained and experienced in working with depression, anxiety, anger management issues, relationship problems, bereavement, physical, emotional and sexual abuse, workplace bullying and general emotional and psychological problems.

Fiona's specialist area of research involves eating behaviours and the use of eating to manage difficult emotions. If you have difficulties in managing your eating patterns or weight, Fiona can work with you to explore possible reasons behind this, and support you through any changes which you may wish to make.

Fiona is also experienced in helping people to deal with the after effects of traumatic life experiences, whether these relate to one off events or to long-term exposure to trauma.

Fiona is a member of The British Psychological Society (BPS), The Institute of Transactional Analysis (ITA), and The British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP). In addition to her counselling work, Fiona is studying for a PhD in psychology, and her specialist area of research relates to eating behaviours and the psychosocial aspects of weight-loss surgery.

Fiona had a successful career at senior level within the security industry before beginning retraining as a psychologist and psychotherapist, and continues her involvement in corporate management through her role as a non-executive director within the NHS.

Fiona is at The Valley Clinic Monday to Friday 9-6.30pm by appointment. She is happy to have a telephone consultation to see if the therapy she offers is appropriate.
